Bored of your workplace look? Here are some tips and tricks to jazz up your ofce style and perhaps make an impression on management too

When the job take their toll and life becomes a bit humdrum, perhaps it’s time for you to make mundanities of a nine-to-fve a few life changes.

But hold off on handing in your months’ notice, and try turning your focus towards your attire to breathe some life back into the workday.

“WHEN IT COMES TO THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF DRESSING FOR WORK – FOOTWEAR – ALWAYS GO FOR STYLE AND COMFORT”

SEARCHING FOR INSPIRATION

Many of us spend countless hours staring at the wardrobe, frying our brains to put together an outft only to eventually run out of ideas – getting dressed in your best bib and tucker every single day for the offce is no easy feat.

However, recent studies have shown that our clothing choices can influence our work performance and the perceptions of colleagues – so what you wear is more important than just ftting in, it can even impact your career.

To help you rat racers out there, Oasis Living has compiled seven surefre ways to jazz up your workwear essentials and hopefully boost both your mood and your productivity.

ACCESSORISE CLEVERLY

For women, if you splurge on anything make it a handbag that can ft all your belongings – including your gadgets – and one that goes with any outft. And be bold; it’s the one item you can get away with being loud and bright. For men, the same applies with satchels.

When it comes to jewellery, you don’t want anything too distracting. Take a minimalistic, less-is-more approach when donning a statement piece. Stylists agree sterling silver is the sleekest in terms of creating a workday look. Think an elegant necklace with an unusual pendant or a layered set of rings.

Men can experiment with cufflinks and timepieces and can get away with fairly ‘out there’ styles. Sporty, vintage, or ultracontemporary arm candy will speak volumes about your personality.

PUMPED UP KICKS

When it comes to the most challenging part of dressing for work – footwear – always go for style and comfort. Ladies, put your best foot forward with kitten-heeled sling backs or patent leather loafers. And for a more laid-back look and a pain-free day, why not try white Adidas Originals’ Stan Smith kicks – the ultimate casual wear with class.

For men, remember shoes are often the frst thing you notice and, when properly polished and taken care of, give people a good idea about your style and self-confdence. Go for the classic thirties style pairs of velvet loafers, two-toned Conard wingtips, or Oxfords to dress up casual attire.

WHEN IN DOUBT, WEAR DENIM

What better way to navigate the business day in style and comfort than a pair of jeans? Yes, really.

Flares and boot-cuts complement everything, be it a blazer for a semi-formal look or a smart T-shirt for casual Thursdays. You can even get away with pairing a denim shirt with pastel pants, making even the most reluctant fashionista look like a trendsetter

SEASONAL COLOURS

Light, bright clothes to keep you cool in summer and dark, neutrals for winter – it should go without saying. Come winter though, you absolutely should not live without a bit of colour in your life; try looking for muted versions of your favourite lively hues and you will feel just as cheerful. What’s more, you will boost others’ moods too. BETTER BY PATTERN

There is no harm in mixing up occasional prints like stripes and florals but go as subtle as possible. And if you’re feeling bold with your polka dotted midi skirt or pinstriped wide-belt pants, balance it out with a crispwhite top, a mauvy nude lip stain and a few coats of eyeopening mascara.

Suit jackets can also be considered as statements for men – a dark plaid with a pair of blue chinos or a grey one paired with jeans and a tee are nice looks. Also, another way to elevate a simple dress shirt is by changing up the accent colours of the buttons, collar and seam stitching.

From vivacious brooches to badges that speak for a movement you support, and enamel lapel pins and patches that reflect your personality or daily mood, donning a pin will bring individual flair to the most boring of button-downs.

WHY KNOT?

If an offce is strict and requires uniform suits, it doesn’t offer a lot of wiggle room on jazzing up your look. So, take the offce dress code to a new level and wear it with a vividly colourful foulard scarf or a chic bandana.

Funky ties and/or pocket squares for men can add texture to an otherwise plain suit-and-tie combo – add a tie clip to it for an extra bit of cool.
